  1. I wish it was easier to change the default icon for SM. The default is the ugliest dude. After every update I have to change it. I give it a nice gold star.
  2. Hi again. Chapter 2 4. Group properties window opens, drop down Current Location and select Canada BOB because I have moved the postage dues to a Canada BOB album. 5.'Canada BOB' selected, click OK 6. Brings me back to the main program window. 'Location' is still empty. The one previously shown is also now blank. 7.So now I have to open the properties for an individual stamp, AND select the 'Additional Information' tab, then click 'OK' button. Note the correct Location is already showing in the box. Click 'OK' and go back to main screen. 8. And voila! Location is revealed. (sorry for picture resolution - trying to fit in attachment size limits) That is what has to be done to get Location to display on the main screen. It isn't being refreshed somewhere and won't show until the 'Additional Information' tab is selected for each stamp. I really hope you can get this to work. Been waiting 4 years now. Thanks. Stay warm and healthy Brian
  3. Hello again. I'm up to version SM2022 now and the same problem is still here. I had hoped it would be fixed by now but I guess it got missed. I still use 'Location' because I have it set on everything from the beginning and it would be a big boring job to change everything (get enough of that kind of stuff from Microsoft). To clarify the problem I have taken a series of screen shots to show the process. Patience please! 1.Start with program window, note 'Location' all blank. 2.So I select a group to set Location in group properties. Note I checked 1 to see if it was already set and it was, so now it displays. I could do that for the several thousand others not displaying Location but that is the 'big boring job' referred to above. It should display if set. 3.Right click on the selected group and pick 'Properties'. Continued in next post due to file size limits
  4. Ok, it seems to be working now. Changed the Guinea entry CountryID back to 891 in the Countries table and the listings in 'Add Stamp' and in the Data Manager look correct now. I don't know how it got changed in the first place, but at least was able to fix it.
  5. Perhaps I should start a new topic but this country ID list is involved so I'll start here. Having 3 stamps from Guinea to enter into SM sounds simple. So, Add stamp > Guinea > General issue > long, long, long list of nearly every general issue stamp in the DB (Data Manager says 427,646 varieties). Something wrong there - even for Guinea. Data Manager says Guinea countryID is 980. In the text list of countries Guinea is #891. Image folder 891 is several hundred stamps of Guinea. Image folder 980 has 7 stamps of Guinea I added sometime in the past. Checking the DB file in MS Access: in the 'Countries' table Guinea is #980, Kalmykia is #891, and Kalmykia is also #895. Can I fix this by deleting Kalmykia #891 in the 'Countries' table and then changing the Guinea entry to 891 (from 980)? In the 'Types' table I have a record with Description=General Issue, CountryID=980, and TypeID=0. I am guessing that when I ask for General issues for Guinea it looks in Types for the TypeID for General Issues for country 980, finds TypeID=0 and TypeID=0 means every General Issues stamp in the database. Also in the 'Types' table I have a record with Description=General Issue, CountryID=891, and TypeID=31663. Clear as mud? I hope I am on the right track here. Though I find it easy to step off the track into the quicksand, sinking down to oblivion in the computer quagmire. Thank you to anyone who can help Brian
  6. I have had this happen. Usually I will reduce the resolution and size of the file and it will then load and display.
  7. I just tried changing the scaling in Windows from 125 to up to 150% and the text in StampManage did enlarge, though all the windows on-screen also enlarge. I'll keep it at 150% for now, I can always change it back.
  8. Thank you Al G. That seems to be the answer. I completely missed that menu command. The text is very small but for now I will go with it. It is very sharp and clear so for now is ok. As time goes on and eyesight fades, who knows. It would be good if the text did scale with Windows. I see Windows has set a scale factor of 125% for my monitor which helps for most programs. Thank you for pointing me to the answer. Brian
  9. I just replaced my monitor for better colour and resolution. New resolution 2560x1440. Windows 10. StampManage 2019. I haven't seen any problems with any other programs. This is what I now get for the Add Stamp window: Any help would be appreciated. Brian
  10. This is just something I noticed this week. The programmers may want to check it or comment. I'm using SM2017, Windows 8.1. Twice this week I went to 'Tools' > 'Submit user changes...'etc .The data was gathered and an attempt was made to send but eventually I got a text window with a long list of actions taken resulting in unable to submit changes. I should have saved it perhaps but having had similar things in the past and I just closed it. The interesting thing is that both times I was in Stamp Data Manager soon after and the 'Submit Changes' button there worked with no problem. It may just be coincidence but thought I would mention it. Brian
  11. Most of the database is composed of information submitted by us, the users by clicking on the Tools menu item "Submit user changes to Liberty Street Software" or from the Stamp Data Manager. This makes it subject to occasional errors if we mis-identify a stamp. It also makes the database vulnerable to deliberate data corruption by some users. Today I entered a couple stamps under Bolivia and found the displayed images to be from other countries. I have seen this before so checking other Bolivia images found many erroneous images. I went to the Stamp Data Manager and going through the Bolivia listings deleted all the images not Bolivia. Then I went to the folder for Bolivia images and did the same to make sure they were gone. When I finished the Bolivia images dropped from over 2000 to 730. A lot of frustrating work. I think (hope) not too many countries are this bad. To me this seems it had to be done deliberately, because the erroneous images were from all over the world. I can't see it happening by accident. How can I keep from getting these back in my database files when I upgrade the next time?
  12. I run 2 monitors, which had different resolutions. I usually had stampmanage on the higher resolution 23" (1920*1080) and as you say the text was small. The other monitor is max at 1600*900 (it is 21" I think) and moving windows and cursors back and forth between them always req'd adjusting window sizes etc. so last month I set the 23" back to 1600*900, which was the max resolution on the 21". Made the stampmanage text much better, it is not a problem for me now. You could try that as ARKCPA said and see how it works and if your other programs are ok with it. My big screen 4k tv is also hooked to the computer so when I want to see a REALLY enlarged stamp I move things over to it!
  13. Hi, sorry to be slow getting back but haven't checked in for a bit. Yes I can use the quantity if they are the same condition, tho usually they wouldn't be kept together in the same album page. The duplicates are mostly filed in glassines. I'll think about it some more and see if I can make it work for me. I do use the clone function fairly often so between the 2 I can make it work, I was thinking of keeping the duplicate list as a separate 'collection'. I'll think about it some more and work it out. Thanks for the suggestions, it helps keep the gray cells working.
  14. I been updating some of my collections and am wondering about duplicate stamps. I could have a separate collection for listing duplicates but that is a lot of work. How about when the primary stamp is entered on one of the tabs there is a place to enter 'X' number of 'unused' (or mint) and 'X' number of 'used' duplicates. Even without condition or scans it would give a good indication of inventory when included in reports Brian Hicks (Papa)
  15. That's good to know. I didn't know about the 'show totals' option. works well
