  1. If the list were alphabetized, it wouldn't matter as much. Yes, I would love to be able to delete pre-defined formats. But some of the ones that are showing up in my list are formats that I added in a previous version (FDC-CA, etc.) and not ones from the predefined list. I would love the ability to delete those, too. I suppose I could open the MDB in Access and delete them there (though with caution, of course). Right?
  2. Back to this. The first 2 screenshots are all the formats in my database as shown in View By - Formats. The next two screen shots are what shows (above and below) my user defined formats. IF it works as @admin stated (which I know that new ones are added, so it kind of works that way), then the formats not starting with UD in the last two screenshots below should no longer show up. Any ideas? Thanks!
  3. Thanks, Jeff. You understand what I am looking for. I have no idea what the original intent for the Location field on the Additional Information tab of Stamp Properties. Thanks for the vote. 😉 IF mass update didn't change other values (other ticket), AND IF mass update allowed change to Location, then I would not need this - though it seems silly to update the location of a stamp, when I have already identified which album/stock book/box/file it is in. It seems to make more sense to update in which cabinet and on what shelf a particular album is located, and to just store that information in one place rather than on a bunch of individual stamp records. Thanks!
  4. I was just going to post this same thing today. I use my own user defined formats, so that I can control the values 100%. I thought maybe that it was because of this that the value was being recalculated on a mass change. (All I was changing was location). I am guessing that all that is supposed to change is location (or dealer as Roydel above mentioned) and not other things. Let me know if you want other info. I am on the current version of Stamp Manage 2023. This is not something that I had noticed before, but it could be that I just didn't notice because I was mostly using formats that came with the software. Thanks!
  5. Sorry - I forgot the screenshots. OOPS! Where are Used-S and Used-XF-S in the drop down above??
  6. Thanks for the response. That's exactly what I thought should happen. But for me, I have NO entries with the formats in the green box above (they do not show up in the View by FORMAT list, yet they show up in the add/edit stamp entry drop down as shown in the partial screenshot above. Obviously, something is not working right for me. Any other ideas?
  7. 2 screenshots attached: 1 - stamp edit grade drop-down list 2- view by list of all grades in use (including user defined grades) Why does the grade drop-down list not use all the grades in use (including the user defined ones)? Possible enhancement? Thanks!
  8. I decided to add user-defined formats to try to standardize them some. Because I was hoping that they would end up at the bottom of the form, I started them with UD (for user-defined), a period, and then the description. While I can edit my user-defined formats, I cannot do so with the default ones (see screen shot, the ones circled in green without UD. at the beginning). I would like to remove them from the format list entirely. Anyone know how I can go about doing that? If there is not a way, would that be a possible enhancement? Thanks!
  9. Would it be possible to add a Location (from the list of Locations) to the properties of the Album/Stock Book? That seems to make more sense than having the location field on the individual stamp. A stamp is something (an album or stock book or box), which is noted on the stamp properties page 1 (lower left on my screen). And that something is in a location. What say ye? Thanks.
  10. You are right that there are too many combinations and permutations to have an entry for every one of them - but there should be the ability to tie different stamps together on one cover (without using user-defined fields - as I have done). Then the DB does not need to handle the permutations - but the user is enabled to record them easily. Still hoping for something like that.
  11. Along with that - the various types of stamps are described differently for different countries. For example - general issue stamps (no letter prefix on Scott number) for US stamps are under General Issue, but for UN - New York they are Regular Issues. And that is just the beginning. Just between those two "countries" alone, there are Air Post and Air Mail, Postal Cards and Postal Cards - Mint, and Envelopes and Air Letter Sheets or Postal Stationery. Consistency in a DB should be fairly easy and it would make using SM much easier. I still like SM, but would love to see some improvements. Thanks!
  12. Did I read that this was an update that was being worked on a while back? Any news? Thanks!
  13. Still interested in an answer to this question. Thanks!
  14. I receive the attached error when I try to upgrade from 2021 to 2022. Can someone help me, PLEASE? I really want to be able to use what I paid for. I sent an email to support, but did not receive a response. The first time I tried to install it I ignored the error. Then when I got into 2022, there were no values for 2022. Rebooted several times, but they still never showed up. So I uninstalled - and now I have this error and do not dare ignore it. Thanks!
  15. There is a field - User Set Value (Vlues, from what I could find in other topics here). If I set the value manually, usually because there is not one in StampManage, then this is set to true, and shows up as Yes in the entries for a stamp in the collection. How can I access that value to find stamps that were set manually when I had a previous version of StampManage, to check to see if perhaps now have a value in StampManage. I do NOT want to look through all my stamps in the DB. I could not find this in any of the documentation that I found. Thanks for the help!
  16. I am also using the most current version of SM2021 (I applied the latest upgrade about 10 days ago) - and have the SAME issue. Someone else reported this error here: Hope a resolution can be found soon. Thanks!
  17. I have an enhancement request - related to my unanswered question, which I recently posted here. Thank you in advance for your consideration! First let me say this - I absolutely LOVE StampManage. It seems to be well planned and thought out - and it has really helped me get a better grasp on my collection. Still have a long way to go to get all of my stamps into the software, but I will get there. I appreciate all the effort that has already been put into this product. In order to tie stamps together (for example, attached subset of full se-tenant set, more than one stamp on a cover - whether from one country or different countries, or maybe other scenarios that I have not thought of), I would like to see a change made to the StampManage software. Please decide if one of the following methods or a different method is best. (I am a computer programmer who has worked a LOT with databases, so I understand fairly well what will be going through your brain as you read this.) Option 1 - Add a field to the stamp record in collections that allows you to link a stamp to the designated "primary" stamp record in any "connected" set as described above from any country in the selected collection. I am unsure where this field could go in the add/edit stamp window as it seems really full already. 😞 If this field has a value (which means that the stamp is tied to a designated "primary" stamp record), the Current Value field would be unavailable for the "non-primary" stamp on the record in the collection, or forced to 0 because the valuation for the stamps that are connected as described above would be on the designated "primary" stamp record in the collection. To make it easier to find the designated "primary" stamp, an indicator flag for the designated "primary" stamp in the collection could be used to indicate that it is a designated "primary" stamp, making the selection list much smaller than the entire collection (and therefore making easier to create the list, but it seems that we would often forget to set the indicator to true). In addition to changing the add/edit stamp window, this information would need to be displayed on the stamp detail screen in the collection (perhaps with its own color heading - since it is so unique?). Why I like this method - every stamp is listed in the database, even without value, so that it can be seen quickly whether a particular stamp is owned or not. Why I don't like this method - could be a bit cumbersome selecting the proper designated "primary" stamp record in the collection for this field, and there is not a "logical place" on the add/edit stamp window for this field (and selection to fill it). Option 2 - Add a new tab to the add/edit stamp window which would contain a list of all the stamps that are connected as described above - all on one stamp record for the designated "primary" stamp in the set. On this tab would be the stamp catalog info - small image, country, Scott number, denomination, description (perhaps) - along with the stamp condition fields (format, grade, hinged, centering, cancel, and gum). The info for the designated "primary" would be also be shown here, but not editable (because that would be done on the first tab), along with the ability to add this info for as many stamps as needed. Why I like this method - you do not need to select the proper designated "primary" stamp (because all the stamps are part of the record for that stamp), and there is a "logical place" on the add/edit stamp window for this info. Why I don't like this method - every stamp is NOT listed in the collection individually, so that it cannot be seen quickly whether a particular stamp is owned or not (though a record could be automatically maintained (added, updated, or deleted) in the collection with no value and linked to the designated "primary" stamp similar to option 1 - so that the add/edit stamp window is opened to the designated "primary" stamp in the group, thereby allowing the software to easily show every stamp in a collection). Option 3 - Allow the addition of stamp record in the CATALOG that is for me only and not to be sent to StampManage as a change. For example, if I have attached subset of a larger se-enant set or a cover with two different stamps on it, I can add a record to the catalog with a Scott Number of "XXXX-YYYY", "XXXX and CCCC YYYY" ", where XXXX is the Scott number for the designated "primary" stamp in a group described above, CCCC is the optional country for the second stamp, and YYYY is the Scott number for the second stamp in the group. You can add additional Scott Numbers (along with countries) as needed if there are more than 2 stamps in the group as described above. If a cover or subset is a unique situation, then it would NOT make sense for that record in the catalog to be sent to StampManage as a change to the database. If my situation as described above is fairly common (joint issue FDC from an official agency, for example), then I would expect that this record should be in the catalog for everyone and therefore sent to StampManage. Once in the catalog, this grouping could be selected in the add/edit stamp window and added to a collection. Why I like this method - Do not need to select the proper designated "primary" stamp (because the stamps are tied together in the catalog). Why I don't like this method - this is cumbersome for everyone (especially you, as you will likely receive suggested records to be added to the catalog that should not be added for everyone, which will require time and effort on your part to sort through the catalog changes), every stamp is NOT listed in the collection individually, so that I cannot see quickly whether I have a particular stamp or not. I am sure that there are other scenarios and options for making this happen, but I at least wanted to start a dialog about the possibility. From my perspective, option 3 seems to be the worst, and option 2 seems to be the best IF it includes automatically maintaining records for the stamps tied to the designated "primary" stamp - BUT you know the database design and I do not. Without a software change to manage this, I will do so with a variation of option 1, using a user-defined field to store the StampManage ID of the designated "primary" stamp in one of the user-defined fields and entering the entire value on the record in the collection of the designated "primary" stamp and a 0 value record on any stamp records in the collection for associated stamps. Or, if there is a better "best practice" using the software "as is", I would love to hear it. Otherwise, it would be made eaier and more natural if a change was implemented. It seems that this would be a common scenario for most collectors. Thanks again for considering this!
  18. My screen resolution is 1920x1080. I have a 17" laptop, so have plenty of real estate, but can't go any higher. 🙂 What I don't like about mine is that the country/category etc box is small. The larger space for that is very attractive. 😉 Thanks much!
  19. In watching one of the videos on YouTube, I noted the Add Stamp screen looked different on the video than on my screen (and I like the one on the video better - with the box in the lower right located in the upper left instead). I have StampManage Deluxe 2021. Why is mine different?
  20. I see no one answered this question from 2016 either. I have the same question. What do others do? I don't think that the StampManage folks want us adding to the collection for all of these situations.
  21. I have several examples of stamps that are "together", but I do not know how to add ONE record with those stamps. For example: - a pair (or any subset) of larger group of se-tenant issue (like two stamps out of a 4 different stamps issued on one sheet) - different stamps on cover (often additional stamp added so there was enough stamp for first-class mail on an FDC) - stamps on cover from multiple countries (often an FDC from a joint issue) How would I go about recording this in StampManage, so I know that stamps A and B are "connected" somehow? Let me know if you don't understand my question. Thanks! Phil
