Guest Mark
Hi I have just purchased stamp manage and had started alphabetically to ads my stamps to it. I added a stamp from Aden Scott no. 30 1949 silver jubilee AMD the price listed for it used is I think £425 mint is I think about £2.00 I have searched the web and there is no way that stamp is valued at over £400. I purchased this software to give me a valuation of what I have. And now have a valuation well over it's cost. Is this a common problem with Scott valuation? admin
Hi sorry about that we will take a look at the values in this section. Please not we can not use SCOTT values they do not license values to any 3rd party that I am aware of. To get the actual selling prices for stamps on the internet, you can right mouse click on any stamp and select INFORMATION OVERLOAD, ebay completed, etc... Mark
Hi, thank you for your reply. So just to confirm what your saying. The prices given in the software are not a true reflection of the cat value? So by entering the stamps and choosing that value I do not have a true value of my collection? Instead I have to go search for the value myself through eBay etc? Could I then ask what is the purpose of the values in the software? Mark
Could I have an answer to my question please.
Guest Klaus
Hello Mark, I am also evaluating the software but have found the prices to be almost always unavailable or not close to anything resembling real values. The response to just look things up on the internet has lead me to look elsewhere. I have over 50,000 stamps to enter and it will take me years to value my collection this way. Not sure how they can claim ' How Much is your Collection Worth? Find out with our up-to-date Market Values' . For me, this will not work so I am continuing my search with a different software. Gook luck Mark
ARKCPA
Hello Mark and Klaus: The software is not licensed to use the Scott Catalog retail prices (this is the standard used by all the stamp dealers). Accordingly, I purchase each year the newest Scott Catalog and correct/override the wrong program values by entering the correct market values in the programs stamp data manager. I am a Revenue/Telegraph stamp specialist where there is no where near 50,000 items to collect so it is not an impossible task to fix the incorrect values being reported; but it does take days to update and enter. If anyone finds a stamp program that does accommodate the use of the Scott values, I would be interested in being notified of the name of that program. Best wishes to all the philatelists
Mark
Thanks guys. Yes I bought this software simply because of these advertising lines of being able to value my stamp collection. This had proved to be unobtainable. So I will be giving reviews to detail just how inadequate it is, but also the deceptive advertising. I was already searching eBay etc for prices, so could have saved myself the money and just continued what I was doing. If this software had have advertised honestly then we would have known exactly what to expect and there would not be the disappointment. Mark
I think the best way is through the Stanley Gibbon site. Let's you add your collections. Have want list. Have your own images, plus it gives you the catalogue value. I think I will go this route.
