Importing Home Inventory Pro into Home Manage - Microsoft Access vs Excel?

Getting ready to import HIPro 2011 into new HomeManage. Lots of commas in HIP Comments, etc. so, unless I find/replace all commas with something else (probably ";") to get a valid .csv, I'm looking at import from either [1] Excel tab-delimited, or [2] Access.

[1] I'm okay on exporting from HIP to Excel, but to get tab-delimited file from Excel, do I select SaveAs > "Text (tab delimited)(*.txt)", then import into HM as Type= .txt and delimiter = tab?

[2] If I open hip11.mdb in Access, can t_image, t_attachment and t_inventoryitem (and maybe t_inventoryitemattachment and t_inventoryitemfolder? - don't use insurance fields) be linked so import will include images and attachments for each inventory item? Am going to have to contract for this query to be done, but hoping for input from someone who has successfully done this.

[3] Also wondering if better to export/import ALL fields, whether used or not, or keep only used fields?

Thanks for any input!

Hi, that sounds correct to me.  If you don't mind emailing your import file we can test and make sure it works ok.  Please ZIP and email to techsupport@libertystreet.com

You should be able to import images by selecting the destination field:

Image 1 (URL or Path of Image)

this would only work if t_image is set to the complete path of the image.

The other fields can't be imported unfortunately.

Only used fields sounds reasonable

Thanks for the input. Further clarification:

- Does that mean that only one Image can be imported/attached? If not, how do I import multiple attached Images?

- And that Attachments cannot be exported?

- Any advantages using Access vs. tab-delimited Excel?
