Can't locate a coin

I'm new to Coin Manage and I have been having issues locating some coins.. I'm sure that there is a way to add a coin to your collection that isn't in the system, I just can't seem to figure it out.  If someone could please assist that would be great! BTW I am looking for a proof set.---- 2015 Presidential $1 coin proof set.---

Thanks!

Hi, we located this by selecting

TOOLS > SEARCH COINMANAGE DATABASE...

from the main menu.  Then entered the search term:

Presidential Proof Set

The 2015 is in:

United States > US Mint Products > Coin Sets, Covers, etc..

It should be in the same section as the other Presidential sets, we will fix this for the next free update.

I've had Similar problems locating previously added coins. The search feature seems to be temperamental. I will select "Search all Text/Fields," however, many times the software would not generate results of the search even though I know for certain a certain coin has been added.

Another approach I've used is to select a specific field that is related to the coin for which I am searching but this is a time-consuming approach.

An explanation on how we can resolve this would be appreciated.

Hi, could you give an example of something you have searched for that is not found?  we will be doing a youtube video on searching in the next few days.  Select:

Yes. Just one example of many. I searched for “1972 Eisenhower Silver Dollar Uncirculated” with “Search all Text Fields” and the software has no results, no record despite having 6 in my inventory.  This occurs whether or not I have selected “Search all Collections.” I have also selected one field, “Year” with “Search In” selected and again no results. When I go to My Collection, the coins are listed. That is an easy example. I have others but for whatever reason, the software is not recognizing valid search criteria.

I have over 20 years experience working with and developing databases as well as teaching certain Colleges Graduate courses on this topic among many.

There is a definite problem in the search function. As I indicated, I can give as many examples as you need.

This isn’t an issue where I and others don’t know how to search, the issues are a failure within the database search function when valid queries are provided.

Thanks!

The You Tube videos are a good resource for new users but I’ve used your software for at least 10 years. I believe I purchased my first version from you on eBay in 2007, give or take a year.

Those of us who are experienced and knowledgeable about the software are having problems with basic database functions. All of the You Tube videos are not going to fix a problem with a database function. The query function needs to be reviewed and tested.

Perhaps you and your team can consider the design of the database in light of upgrades made to the software. Have recent upgrades caused certain database functions to fail? This is a rhetorical question.

Do you use SQL in the development and upgrade stages? Are you testing new and previous functions to ensure there are no conflicts.

I noted that there are fields that are given appended with numbers, like User Field 1, User Field 2 and so on. This practice can cause problems for end users. Do both fields require an input? What standard is required when entering information in various fields?

How are the tables built and what key information is required? What are your naming standards? How do you ensure consistency across all stages of DB development from concept to end user?

i can go on but I’ sure you see my point.

There is no perfect DB. As the developer, you want to consider who is the end user. In your case, I would submit you have a good segment of end users with little to no experience entering data. I have noted inconsistencies in selectable items from predetermined lists while entering new inventory.

Do you use a Project-based approach to development and enhancements? Other critical questions you may want to address as a team. Are all team members interpreting standards consistently and how they were intended to be interpreted.

I can go on forever but this is only the beginning of what you may need to ensure data integrity. Developing an affordable product is a double-edged sword. Data integrity may be compromised with a budget priced program. Paying a few dollars for a tool that is supposed to track hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of inventory may be the Achilles heel. In other words, how do the man hours relate to the end product? What has been compromised?

These are hard questions with difficult answers

Thanks

Ed
