  1. What I have found that works for me is to do the following.

    1. Enter the new varieties without entering new values for those stamps.

    2. Press the 'New Category' button but do not make any actual changes.

    3. Press the 'Close' button and the Data Manager will close and update the value table.

    4. Go back to the Data Manager and enter new values for those stamps that you just added.

    5. You can then close the Data Manager and those values should be retained.

  2. SM gives rather short shrift to Israel stamps with virtually no images and no stamp values over the past 15 years or so.  As to the tab singles, I had once suggested that SM add that format but was told since Israel was the only country with that format they did not feel it was necessary.  In any event, you can simply add your own 'tab single' format and then include the value you want just like you would have to do with any existing format anyway for recent issues.

Hi, ok it looks like the dragging columns in that manner is not working correctly.  We will fix this for the next free 2022 update.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks, though in reality that was not my main concern, rather I would like to have the images column at least be long enough so that the word “Image” is not cut off. The problem with the images column might be related to the resolution of my monitor which is 5120 x 2160.

For example, when I use the computer where my SM program is located as a remote computer from my laptop, the full word of “Image” appears along with extra spacing.  So even though that column can not be expanded, the full relative size of each image appears. That does not happen when viewing on my monitor at its primary resolution of 5120 x 2160.

  4. Just installed SM2022 update.  (Running on Windows 11 Pro.) Couple of somewhat minor though irritating apparent bugs in the main view portion of the program.

    1.  The Image column cannot be widened and as a result (at least on my large 40 inch monitor), the images shown in that column are very tiny.

    2.  If one wants to move a column to the left of the image column, it can be done, but then those columns to the left of the image column are completely blank. (See attached)

Hi, if you add a stamp and then click on the APPLY button the format will reset to SINGLE STAMP.  We will try to put in a check box or preference so that the format does not reset when using the APPLY button to add multiple items.

Back in 2019 you indicated you would try to enable the ability to override the "reset" function when choosing APPLY to add stamps.  Thus if one has a group of Plate Blocks, First Day Covers, etc. it would not be necessary to keep switching back from the "single stamp" designation for each additional item.  Is this still being considered?  Or did I miss the  implementation of that feature?

This is more trouble than its worth.  Some people submit changes that match their collections and not the correct catalog info.  Example, their own catalog numbers, or varieties that dont exist in the catalog. It always creates an unnecessary editing problem. I always copy my own stampdata.mdb file before an update, then copy it back to the data folder. My opinion is that liberty street should do away with this option

I agree that the process often creates problems.

1 - Incorrect (and irrelevant) Information provided through this process does not get corrected by Liberty before being incorporated into updates.

2 - When incorrect listings and images are DELETED by the user, this deletion is not carried through on updates  A good example is to look at the Poland database and my thread from last year:

Unfortunately, however, SM does not do its own updates for many (most?) countries, (as an example, when I worked on the Poland database last year it had not been updated since 2010 and with disastrous updates for 2008-2010) consequently the only way they get updated at all is through this method.

  7. Not sure what you mean by "Cat #".

If you are looking at your stamp inventory in general, you can click on any column heading to have the inventory sorted in order by that column.  Click again on the same column and it will reverse the order.  If neither this suggestion nor Colin's post clear up your question, can you post an image of what you are seeing and that may make your question clearer?

  8. Today I was not at home but decided to use a remote connection to access my Windows 10 PC.  Everything worked fine until I started to use SM.  When I tried to enter a stamp, the pop-up window was incomplete so that I could not get access to the right side of the stamp information on the additional information tab.  See the image below.

As can be seen in the image below, the right side of the add stamp window is cut off.  In particular I can not choose a different seller that a stamp was purchased from since the scroll down arrow is not accessible. Not can I choose to click on 'APPLY' at the bottom right since that button does not show. There is no scroll bar at the bottom which would allow me to access that part of the window.  I tried various other things, including changing the font size etc. but to no avail.

Can this be rectified or do others that use remote connections to access their SM files not have this issue??

  9. Send a message directly to the support email of SM (techsupport@libertystreet.com) .   That is what I did and I was asked for the screen resolution of my monitor.  Once I told them, I was advised they would make sure that they adjusted the program to reflect the screen resolution of my monitor in the next update.  FWIW, my screen resolution was 3440 x 1440 which reflects a very large 34 inch screen.

  10. I am using the most current version of SM2021.  First I add a stamp in the "General" tab.  Then I go to the "Additional Information" tab and input info.   Then I click "apply."  So far so good as the stamp with the proper image is entered in my collection.  However, when I am returned to the "General" tab from the "Additional Information" tab in order to continue adding stamps, the initial "Quantity" instead of showing "1" shows "1246576928"

  11. Just installed SM2021.  Have not had a chance to go over it in detail...but two issues popped up visually immediately.

First is that the font size is HUGE in the main part of the viewing window and I do not see how to change that.

Second is that it did not retain the changes to the column order which I had instituted in SM2020.

I would have loved to post an image showing these things but can not do so because of the limit SM has instituted on the total amount of attachments one can upload to this forum and has not provided a method to remove old attachments so that new ones can be uploaded.  (FYI - there is a thread on this issue but no solution has been suggested by SM to resolve this problem.)

  12. Yes....per instructions in SM:

Hold down the Ctrl key while using the mouse cursor to pick the desired stamps from any list of stamps.  Hold down the Shift key to select a continuous range of stamps.

While keeping the Ctrl key down, use the mouse pointer to pick the stamps you wish to select.  To 'unselect' a selected stamp, simply use the mouse pointer and click on it again (with the Ctrl key down).  To revert from multiple selection back to single selection, release the Ctrl key and select any stamp from the list.

  13. I wanted to add a Scott #1890a to the Italy Database.  I opened the Stamp Data Manager and though I had never done it this way before, noticed that there was an option to "Add Subvariety".  So I clicked on that for #1890.  That produced an item "1890_"  So I then went to change the "_" to "a".  Initially that seemed to work.  Then I closed the Stamp Data Manager.  But when I went to add pricing for that stamp via the Stamp Manage Catalog, that stamp did not show up.

I then went back to the Stamp Data Manager and saw that the entry read "1890_" rather than "1890a"  And now Stamp Data Manager does not let me edit that stamp at all.  So I decided to simply click on "remove"  but nothing happens.  Then I decided to try by clicking on "New" . I then entered the information for 1890a and clicked "OK"  That caused a warning message to pop up that there already was a stamp with that number in the database do I want to replace it.  I clicked "yes".   However at that point the Stamp Data Manager did not as is usual open to the place where you would see the new stamp.  Instead it opened back at the first set of Italian stamps.  When I then went to the place where "1890a" should be it was not there but "#1890_" was still there and it can not be removed.

So I tried to see what would happen if I added a "Subvariety" to "1890_" and the program created a "1890__"  But I was able to delete that new subvariety...but still can not delete "1890_"  So I am guessing that this problem arises as a result of my trying to change "1890_" to "1890a".

I then went to see what would happen if I tried to add a stamp of "1890_" to my collection.  While that number shows up in the stamp list, when I actually try to add it to my collection, I get an error message saying that "The Microsoft Jet database cannot find a record in the table 'Varieties' with matching field(s) "TypeID,ScottNumber'."

Hopefully I have described the problem in sufficient detail.  This may be a bug in the program when one adds a subvariety and then tries to specify the actual stamp number suffix.  I am attaching an image showing what now shows up in the stamp data manager.

P.S.  I tried closing down SM and re-opening it to see if I could then delete "1890_" from the Stamp Data Manager....but still no.

  14. Back in May I cleaned up part of the Poland database as described above.  Essentially, I corrected the Scott numbers for the years 2008-2010 and renumbered the images to correspond to the corrected Scott number.  I also deleted the incorrect items from the database.  As a reminder, the problem is that for the 2008-2010 period someone had entered Scott numbers which were approximately 1000 higher than they should have been.  I also uploaded all the changes to SM.

Today, I was looking at the database and found that all of those incorrect Scott numbered items (numbered from 4906 to 4995a) were back in the database.  Those entries entirely duplicate the corrected entries (3905-3981a).  That means there are two different Scott numbered entries and two images now for each of those stamps.  And when checking the 2020 Stamp Manage Catalog it shows that those incorrect entries were added back by Liberty Street on July 5, 2020!!

So not sure what happened here...but this needs to be cleaned up.  I can (again) delete those entries from the database but unless Liberty Street does something to prevent their return, this will obviously not solve the problem.

That is because the values are stored in two different tables.  The individual value is in the value table.  The current value is in the Collection table.  Think of the the Value table and the Stamp Database Table as the Scott Catalog and the Collection table as what it is your collection.  So the current value is the number of stamps that you own times the value in the value table.  The only way I can see to solve your problem is to make 3 entries of 1 stamp each in the collection table and enter your own value if it is not listed Example for a stamp with F/VF centering which is not listed   Hope that makes sense

That is my point.....All I am suggesting is that there be an additional column available (i.e. taken from the value table as you describe).  As I pointed out, if one sorts the collection on the "Current Value" Column, the sort does NOT actually sort on that basis.  Instead it sorts on the "individual value".   If the program can (and for some reason does) sort the "Current Value" column on that basis then surely it would not be difficult to also have a column (presumably named "Individual Value") representing that information for those of us who want to show that information directly in our collection.
