Database and updates

I have a question about updates.  I occassionally make corrections to the database using the "edit variety information" function for a variety of reasons:  to add missing information,  to correct an error, add a picture where there was none, or sometimes to just update a picture with one that I think is more representative of the stamp or better quality than the stock picture.  I do not expect this information to be incorportated in the Stamp Manage database for use by all users, but it is fine with me if it is.  I do regularly run the "submit user changes to Liberty Street Software" function.  I don't track, nor do I really care, if they incorporate these changes.

My question is this:  when I download an update, either an annual upgrade or a free mid-year update, does it overwrite my database so that I lose all of my changes?  Is there any way of preventing this?

Thanks
