  1. Hi John F

Here is the link to my 4000+ Italy Stamp Images. Its a big download but it runs in he background.

    "36" Italy Images = https://ln.sync.com/dl/e5827d500/x9qxsd4p-gejvr5di-tvdmphwc-p7wppnq2

The link will load into a folder "Sync/36". Be aware that this is a live feed to my Italy images. As I add more images these will automatically be added. You are advised to copy and paste the "Sync/36" folder into "Stamp Manage Images/36" because if I discontinue the link you will also lose the images.

    Regards colinATcolinpattrickDOTcom

P.S. The images are freely available for anyone to download.

download the images to the 57 folder.  Or download them all as a ZIP and extract to the 57 folder

Be aware that this is a LIVE feed to one of my stamp image folders. As I add stamp images these will automatically appear in the folder "Sync/57" folder. You are advised to occasionally copy & paste these images to "StampManageImages/57". This is for your protection as if I delete the feed then you lose the images.

Not certain that you can download the link directly into StampManage or how you create a ZIP file from the link.

  4. Malaya/Malaysia Database entries not submitted as SM have not defined the CountryID or TypeID in initial SM database.

    In 2017 Scott Caralouge

Scott numbers General Issue for Malaya-Kedah as Scott 1 to 105 and under Malaysia-Kedah Scott 106 to 145.

Scott numbers General Issue for Malaya-Johore as Scott 1 to 155 and under Malaysia-Johore Scott 169 to 206.

Therefore Kedah and Johore region need Two different CountryID and two different TypeID. They cannot be grouped together.

Until SM clearly define the CountryID and TypeID there is no point submitting data ad adding to the mess that is Malaya and Malaysia

  5. Stamp Manage poorly represents Malaya/Malaysia as Scott numbers stamps from 1 onwards. These all need Seperate Country Names in the database with uniqueID numbers. These uniqueID numbers need to have a relationship with the Types of stamps issued.
    e.g.
Sungei Ujong has only General Issue whilst Trengganu has 5 different types of stamps issued.

Stamp Manage falls far short of basic requirements to enter Scott numbers into the database, hence I created my own list. I used some of the SM countryID & TypeID but the rest I created myself. I have submitted this list to SM.
I have in my database all of the countries above with Scott numbers up to 2017 plus all types. Many of these have the images.
    I realize that:-

    Ctry + Type
    CountryID CountryName TypeID Description
121 Malaya State - Sabah (Malaysia only) 58042 GENERAL ISSUE (Scott 1-45)
143 Malaya State - Sarawak (Malaysia only) 20152 GENERAL ISSUE
319 Malaya State - Wilaya Persekutuan (Malaysia only) 58879 GENERAL ISSUE (Scott 1-7)

should have been included in the above list.

I will create a link to Johore(51) of 144 images plus a seperate heading link to Kedah(57) of 117 images, as soon as  time permits. watch these pages.

Are the pictures for Spain going to be added in an update?

Anyone, including Stamp Manage Admin, can download the 4250 images of Spain.

Cannot answer the question, will or when?

    Glad you liked them.

  7. 4,700 images as Jpegs with Scott Numbering does take time. However you should see the images loading into Folder "Sync", SubFolder "202", start straight away. If you go back periodically into the folder then more and more images will be downloaded. My World collection of 310,000 images took 6 hours to load to my laptop.

The sync works in the background and its speed is dependant on the number of people accessing the link

Please note that this is a live link. As I edit (e.g. I made a mistake) then I correct it and this is reflected in the live feed. As I add more Spanish Stamp images then this is also updated in the live feed you are seeing.

You are seeing a live link to my stamp database of images.

I have at present no intentions of stopping this live link, but if this should happen, you will not be able to view the live link. However there is nothing stopping you copying/pasting the images to a new file on your computer which i have no control over.

A link to my Sabah Stamp Images.

It loads into a Folder called "Sync" with a sub-folder "121" (which is my folder name.)

The link is live, so as I add more Sabah Stamps these will appear within the Link. If you have any missing Sabah stamps images then these would be appreciated.

I collect World stamps so Sabah Images are only a part.

  9. I found Malaya States a nightmare. For the Access Database to work correctly then each Malaysa States needs a seperate Country ID code plus a seperate Type ID code for the differing types of stamps.

I created my own seperate Listing, see below.

Sabah I set up as "Malaya States- Sabah" with Country Code 121

I have a number of stamp images of Sabah stamps and will do a link shortly

That's the first time I've ever heard a period described that way!

This side of the pond in England its a Full Stop. Periods are things that ladies have.

We suffer with color, colour; Gray, Grey; Gas, Petrol; etc

I remember my teenage daughter babysitting for our American friends and I quote" the diapers are in this bag and the cookies are in the tin". What is a diaper and cookie she asked.

I agree you use a different dictionary to us.

But back to the problem. I use "( )  - , ;   "etc in my title ( e.g. File Names). The only character I don't use is the period (Full Stop).

Thought this might be the solution? to the problem.

The Stamp Manage Program uses 'Microsoft Access' as its base program.

With my 665,000 plus  records showing Stamp Denomination and 90% showing Year coupled with 303,000 images (showing the correct image,) I have left using Stamp Manage many years ago. With too many errors/corrections/etc.

    Regards Colin@ColinPattrick.com

  11. There are 29,500 stamp records within Stamp Manage that still require 'stampdenomination' field to be completed, before this could happen.

Currant valuations would also need completion for all fields.

This is a massive task and not sure what the total results would tell me, by country?

Lots of stamps have little value, as witnessed by the Kiloware bundles in ebay

Thanks for the replies folks.  A couple of suggestions I think would make this task a bit simpler.  Based on time certain countries around the world have issued all the stamps they are ever going to issue.  Is there a way that these countries could be locked form changing once all there stamps are entered.  Example : Allenstein.  It only existed for a very short period of time and then stopped issuing stamps when it joined the German Republic.  Once all of its stamps are entered there are no more ever to be entered so lock it down.  Tis also applies to countries that change their names over time.  Example : Persia/Iran.  Political activities caused this country Persia to cease to exist and was replaced by Iran.  Once again all the stamps of Persia are issued and no more will ever be issued.  Hence this country once all its stamps are entered into the database could be locked from further updates.  This lock does not stop a database administrator from unlocking and editing existing database entries should something show up that was left out of the database.  At least this will keep us amatures out of the database for these completed issues.  Also there is a wide variety of data being entered into the database.  This involves dates (mm/dd/yyyy - dd/mm/yyyy), descriptive information, and all the other types of info about each stamp.  Accuracy is decisive factor for me.  It has to accurately help to identify the stamp in order to get included in the database.  Anyone else have thoughts about these areas?  Almost forgot currency symbols.  Not everyone has keyboards with English Pound signs or EUROS or YEN or YUAN etc.  Some kind of commonly available letters or symbols need to be established for currency identification.  One final thing to cover and that is fractions of a cent.  1/4 or 1/2 works for most every one but what about making 0.25 and 0.50 the standard entry for fractions.  These identify the numbers as small than 1 to most everyone in  the world.  Okay I am getting off my soap box now.  Any other comments please feel free to join in.

    Hi R.G.A.

Loved your Soap Box Rant and agree with most points.

I feel fractions that appear on postage stamps as ¼,½,¾ should appear in the database as such. Don't like 1/4 or converting to 0.25 (many stamps use 0.25c). For ¼ just hold ALT + 0188. For ½ just hold ALT  0189. For ¾ just hold ALT + 0190.

For the 27 other fractions which covers 60 odd world wide stamps then Cut & Paste seems the best option.

    Popular Fractions

On your other point of Currency Symbols I only use 3, (£,€,$) as prefixes to the Denomination. All other Currency Symbols appear as Suffixes. ( My English Keyboard has '£' & '$' keys. For '€' just hold Alt + 0128.

You make some great comments on other points and I am in agreement.

  13. Hi Cliff

StampManage uses an Microsoft Access Database.

The program calls for the stamp image which is held outside the database and returns with the relevant stamp image. However there is no flag within Access to show NO image present.

Have done lots of research on this question, but to date there does not seem to be a solution.

Currently working on a method to import the relevant stamp sizes, as some of the images are of an unacceptable quality (too small) and some images are over 50kb per image (fine for Sheets,) but not acceptable for single stamps, as it makes the image files, too big. Importing the stamp size would enable Reports to be generated of missing images, however the Report would be out of date the minute a new image is added.

As a major user of Access I have written a program that  can 'Cut and Paste' a image into a single database screen. The image (if I accept it) is then saved into its image file, using the Scott numbering system. This helps overcome the many errors that seem to be occurring. The single database screen displays the denomination and the Scott number.(Year, Colour, description, watermark and Perforations etc are also displayed in many instances.

Database covers some 605,000 items coupled with 273,000 Cloud based images. The British Commonwealth is particularly well covered, but it is a difficult area with Pairs, Sheets, Setsto contend with.

Is cab ready, how do you associate user images to the data? Say I have Timbuktu scott 1-500, cataloged in a file....csv ... and all of the stamps scanned as .jpg images in a directory, how do I marry the two dAta sets?

The Stamp Manage Database sets an ID for each country. This ID is also the Folder Name for that country set within the Image Directory.
Your JPG images will also need to be saved, using Scott Numbering system, within the Image Directory.

There is NO Linking needed between the database and the image files. The Access Database used by Stamp Manage does this marry up, without the need for linking.
