I wish it was easier to change the default icon for SM. The default is the ugliest dude.
After every update I have to change it. I give it a nice gold star.

admin reacted to Bill O. in Barcode lookup finds too many "Item not founds"
New to Home Manager. Over 50% of barcode scans come up empty. If it wasn't for the ASIN feature, I would still be typing in data. On the other hand, I can go out to BarcodeReader on the Internet and find my device. I take the barcode off of BarcodeReader and manually enter it into the Home Manager lookup and it still returns a barcode not found. That would seem to indicate that the current lookup is not a good for some items as BarcodeReader. Any way to use multiple sources? Seems that would be far more valuable than hoping the item is available on Amazon.
Thanks

admin got a reaction from dealio in How to use the Asset Tracking fields?
Hi, if you check these boxes you should see a new NOTEBOOK item whenever the item is moved to another location or the status / assignment changes. We are working on a free update for HomeManage that will be ready in a couple weeks, we will be adding the ability to make this a global setting for the update.

admin got a reaction from dealio in Asset# vs. HomeManage ID -- what is the relationship?
The HomeManage ID is a unique integer value that is created by the database file whenever a new asset is created. It is not possible to have 2 assets with the same HomeManage ID
If the asset number field is left blank, we simply make the asset number the same as the HomeManage ID. If you duplicate an asset, the HomeManage ID of the new duplicate asset will be different, but the asset number should be the same.

What happened to the "Grade#" dropdown box in the Add New Stamp or Stamp Properties dialogue windows?
I just updated SM Deluxe 2022, and restarted the program, to no avail. The Grade# selection was there until I updated.

admin reacted to dealio in Asset# vs. HomeManage ID -- what is the relationship?
Just recently I was updating an item and noticed that the Asset#, which I sometimes refer to when pulling up an item, can be different from the HomeManage ID. For most of my records, these two are the same, which is what I like. I'm not certain how the 2 items I've noticed today have mismatched Asset#--HomeManage ID combinations.
So I have some observations/questions for clarification to help me manage items without creating a mess.
What's the relationship between Asset# and HomeManage ID fields?
I know from looking at the input form that I can change the Asset#, but I don't usually do that as there is no need to. The only exception I can recall is long ago I found that for several items the Asset# field contained a space preceding the number and that was causing problems for me--in that situation, for each asset I edited the Asset# field to remove the space before the number. The Barcode field matches the HomeManage ID field. Is this always true?
I don't think the Barcode field is editable by me. Just an observation, not a request to be able to edit it. The asset picture files appear to use the HomeManage ID number in the filename. Can/should I edit the Asset# fields so that the Asset# matches the HomeManage ID number?
Reason: I'd rather that they match to keep things simple for me, but I don't want to cause a problem in the app either.
Three different examples from my database:
Asset# HomeManage ID Barcode
125 122 122 <<< not sure how many items are mismatched like this
122 192 122 (note: there is no Asset# 192; how does this happen?)
190 190 190 <<< this is what I expect to find Thanks for any explanations!
David
PS: Forgot to mention that some time ago I did some experimenting in the database with duplicates, clones and copies of items to learn what the differences/advantages of each type of copy is. How do duplicates, clones and copies handle these 3 fields?

admin reacted to dealio in How to use the Asset Tracking fields?
There are two fields in the Asset Tracking section on the Additional tab of the Item Properties dialog box that I don't recall seeing in earlier versions of HomeManage (currently using v2022) -- did I just overlook them? Anyway, my question is how to use them. The fields are both checkboxes and their names are:
Record Changes in Location Record Changes in Status & Assignment If I check these boxes, where would I find the log of changes that they record? Or is that not how they work? If not, how do they work?
Thanks,
David

admin reacted to Karl in Internet Backup and Restore
So I have emigrated and whilst I wait for my stuff to be shipped I purchased a new desktop PC and decided to download StampManage again, registering it with the original serial I got when I purchased it. All was fine until I went to retrieve the Internet Backup. All I get is a page of errors which I see is mainly a 550 windows error. Any ideas anyone as I know I backed up the collection on a regular basis?

admin reacted to ComputerGeek in Homemanage User Date Field
In follow-up, if I could make a suggestion? Use the windows format to indicate the input order: m/d/yyyy vs yyyy/m/d indicates user entry order: month-day-year vs year-month-day but don't restrict month or day to one digit, in any case, so we enter any date in a year. Thanks

admin got a reaction from Mike824 in Database Management/Reindexing
Do you have MICROSOFT ACCESS installed on your computer? If so, you can open the COINDESC.MDB file and then select the REPAIR /COMPRESS button. That may help the situation.
If you don't have MS ACCESS you can ZIP the COINDESC.MDB file and send it to us

admin reacted to Mike824 in Database Management/Reindexing
As my database grows larger and larger(currently almost 4,000 coins) the database crashes more and more often during routine data input. It also crashes almost always when I modify an older record, add a photo, or sell a coin. In other software applications where a database is used and the preceding occurs, a reindexing of the database has corrected the crashing. Is there a way to reindex? I'm searching for answers right now because the coin manage software has become increasingly unstable and I've got countless hours entering my collection.

admin reacted to Ron C in Can't find 2013W Silver Eagle SP70 Enhanced Finish from West Point Eagle Set
Yes, that is the set. The coins from the set have been individually graded by NDC. The reverse proof is graded at PF70 and the enhanced proof is graded at SP70. Am I supposed to still use the set designation for them or enter the coins individually since they are graded by NDC? I was trying to find a listing for the coins individually and found one for the reverse proof but couldn't find one for the enhanced proof (SP70).

I'm a new user and entering my collection. I have a 2013 West Point Eagle Set and the 2 coins have been graded by NGC. One is the reverse proof rated PF70 UC and the other is rated SP70 Enhanced Finish Early Releases. I can't find a listing for the SP70 coin.

admin reacted to triaqua@comcast.net in The StampManage database is 195044kb and even when zipped is 10MB. How can I get it to be less than 500kb? or how can I get this to you. Please contact me to resolve. Thank you.
I followed up with repeating the information on April 5 but did not send it through the forum but directly to techsupport@libertystreet.com. I originally sent you an email on 10 February, 2022 in StampManage Support letting you know that when I attempted to open StampManage 2022 I got the following messages Too few parameters. Expected 1. Too few parameters. Expected 2. Yellow triangle with an Exclamation point inside and a number 3061 below Yellow triangle with an Exclamation point inside and a number 3062 below These appear consecutively as I clicked on the originally appearing item. My name is Bruce Regenthal, I have been a subscriber since pre 2010 and my email is triaqua@comcast.net. You responded on 10 Feb and asked whether I had upgraded from a very old version-which I did not having upgraded each year to StampManage and CoinManage since about 2009 and I just figured out how to do an internet backup-if WINZIP file compression counts as that to get it under the file size limitation for sending files. If this does not work for you, can you suggest any other options, like maybe sending you a flash drive with the file on it not compressed or any other choices. I have over 7000 stamp and coin items on these 2 programs and use Access to make file additions so that I do not overwrite changes I have added like designer names, manufacturing quantities, added images, and spaces between the beginning of the stamp designations (i.e. "C" (Airmail stamps, etc to make sure 1-9 come before 10-99, and they sort numerically before 100+, etc . The same issue presents itself when entering the "SP" designation for the souvenir pages of which there are over 1000 ) in order for the fields to sort correctly alpha-numerically. I also note that you sometimes have duplications where customers have sent you "corrections" by doing what I just told you I was doing and your designations remain like Hunting stamps from states that read AK5,AK6,AK7,AK8,AK9,AK10,AK11,.... and AK 5,AK 6, AK 7, AK 8, AK 9, AK10, AK11...--which are actually duplicates, but don't appear so when the columns are sorted, by clicking at the top of the field or using the manual sort feature for ascending or descending order. I have also taken all the normally "Quantity produced" fields and tried to look up quantities produced and fill them in where they are missing and then align them up so that the right most number aligns down a column and add appropriate commas for separation and convert all appropriate millions, billions, to all be just numerical numbers so they can be sorted appropriately. For now-once you get the file and this note could you just acknowledge receipt-so I know it got there successfully and later let me know if you can do anything co correct the file to open up appropriately or if there is something I can do manually to correct the problem without your intervention. -
admin reacted to meccadom in How to enter a purchase price when stamps are purchased in a set?
Please excuse if this has been covered in another post as I cannot find an answer:
I purchase a set of stamps for X cost. When entering the individual stamps in the set to the database, how do you properly allocate the single price paid to the individual items for amount paid? Do you just create an entry for the set?
Thanks
